Measure your Pet
Hey there! To make sure your furry friend has the perfect fit, we need to know their height and width for the pet door. When your pet is standing, just measure from the ground to the top of their shoulder (also known as the withers). And for the width, measure from the exact edges of both shoulders (make sure there’s no hair in the way!). Thanks for helping us make sure your pet is comfortable!
How to determine the correct door for your pet!
Hey there! Did you know that the area underneath a pet door is called the “stepover” or “rise”? It’s pretty cool! We use this information along with your pet’s height to determine the perfect height for a pet door. We want to make sure that the pet door is 1-2″ above your pet’s back for maximum comfort. The overall height of the pet door is a combination of the pet door opening height and the stepover. For small to medium pets, the stepover should be between 3″ to 5″, and for larger pets, it should be between 6″ to 8″. For example, if your furry friend is 22″ tall, a stepover of 7″ and a pet door opening of 16″ would be perfect. When we add those together, we get 23″, which is just 1″ above your pet’s back. Perfect!
Hey there! Measuring width is a breeze now! Just keep in mind that most big pets are usually no wider than 9 inches, except for bully breeds and extra large pets who might be a tad wider. Cats, on the other hand, are usually no wider than 5 inches. And small dogs? Well, they’ll definitely be less than 9 inches. Add an inch to get the perfect width of your door. Easy peasy!
